In a massive crackdown against land grabbers, the Sohna Municipal Committee on Thursday took possession of hundreds of acres of land allegedly occupied by farmhouse owners, including VIPs and Bollywood celebrities.

Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi also owned a farmhouse spread over 112 acres in Sohna, about 25 km from Gurgaon.

On Thursday, the municipal committee officials accompanied by a heavy contingent of police personnel locked the main gate of Mehndi’s farmhouse.

The action came on the direction of the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in whose court the Sohna civic body had filed a case under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act in June 2011.

According to the municipal committee, a total of 1,900 acres of common village land was sold to private parties in collusion with the revenue department officials.

“My officials have told me that a 112-acre farmhouse was owned by Daler Mehndi whose 10 acres of land was restored to the Sohna municipal committee,” said Gurgaon deputy commissioner PC Meena.

The SDM court had served a 15-day show-cause notice to the pop singer for vacating about 100 acres of land allegedly occupied by his farmhouse.

Meena also claimed that none of the owners had moved higher court against SDM court order.
