Nearly a week after a police officer was shot at by three unidentified assailants near Signature Tower, a constable was assaulted allegedly by a 21-year-old engineering student in the wee hours of Sunday when the former asked him to stop for a routine check.

The accused, identified as Saurabh Singh, was arrested from the spot. He is a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Gurgaon.

According to the police, constable Ravindra Kumar of Sector 14 police post was checking vehicles at Atul Kataria Chowk at around 2.40 am. When Kumar asked Singh to stop and show his vehicle’s papers, the accused started abusing him.

“The accused was driving a Ford Figo car. When the constable asked him from where he was returning and told him to show vehicle’s documents, he kicked him and abused him,” said Satyendra Singh, assistant sub-inspector.

“Who the hell are you to ask me about my whereabouts?” the accused told the constable.

In a similar incident, the station house officer (SHO) of the Sector 5 police station got his left hand injured during patrolling in the area on Saturday night.

Harinder Singh, the SHO, was checking vehicles near Chintapurni Mandir. When Singh signalled a Maruti Zen car to stop, the car driver pushed him and fled towards Palam Vihar.

“When I signalled the car to stop, the driver slowed down the vehicle. As I reached near the vehicle the driver pressed the accelerator and fled after pushing me,” Singh said.

On March 18, a traffic police assistant sub-inspector was shot at by three bike-borne assailants in Sector 29 when the officer asked them to stop during a vehicle checking drive.
