The city police arrested three college students on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in a daylight robbery incident reported on December 8. The fourth accused remains at large.

The arrested men were identified as Anshul Gambhir, Dhruv Gupta and Sahil Kataria. The fourth, Alok Sharma, is still absconding. While Sahil is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management, the remaining three are students of an engineering college in Farukhnagar.

According to the police, the youth belong to respectable families but resorted to criminal activities to maintain a lavish lifestyle. The robbery was reported last Thursday after a Delhi-based foreign exchange firm owner lost Rs 11 lakh on the pretext of exchanging US dollars.

Complainant, Vijay Khurana, a resident of Sector 55 said a man who identified himself as a resident of Sector 38 in Gurgaon had contacted him to exchange thousands of dollars. After negotiations, a deal was struck at Rs 11 lakh.

According to the police, the victim had sent his employees, Sandeep Kumar and Deepak Bhardwaj, on a motorbike to deliver the cash and get the dollars. However, when the duo reached Sector 38 and called the client, no one answered the phone. They decided to wait thinking the client was busy with some work.

In a matter of minutes, a Maruti Alto car rammed their bike. Two men stepped out and assaulted them while two others snatched the bag. "The accused have been charged with three more robberies, including one at Palam Vihar and another at Sector 18. Surprisingly, they belong to good families and all of them are students," said DCP (east) Maheshwar Dayal.
