With only a month-long vacation and a lot of holiday homework, students and parents are increasingly shelling out money to buy ready-made projects from local markets. The project-makers, offering projects customised as per requirement, say there is a 50% increase in customers in the age group of 3 to 17 years.

Relieving students from the load of holiday homework, a number of stores in city markets are selling everything from models and project files to results of experiments. The shops, claiming that the models are prepared by subject experts, sell the various projects for Rs 200 to Rs 2,500.

“We get orders for models throughout the year, but summer vacations are the busiest. Projects of students from nursery to class 12 are given to us. The students are worried that their models may not be presentable and as they are marked on the homework, we come to their rescue,” a shop owner in Sushant Lok said.

The shopkeeper said that every year the difficulty level and the amount of homework increases. At times, the parents are not even able to understand questions, he said.

A shop owner in Old Gurgaon said that he has already received orders for over 2,000 projects in the last month. Maximum projects are of science, followed by mathematics. He said that the projects are delivered in a week’s time.

“It takes some time to make the models. Some students come in the first few weeks and order the projects required. But now, we are expecting a rush of parents as vacation is about to get over,” he said.

Parents said the services of ‘project-makers’ are helpful as it allows children to focus on their hobbies during vacation.

“My daughter is in class 2 and she has been asked to make around seven models for different subjects. We parents are working and we do not have the time to make each model. The project-makers help in making the models while we explain the concept to our daughter,” Shubhra Batra, a parent said.
