The sudden showers on Friday evening pulled the temperature down by two degree Celsius in the city. Around 5:40 pm, dark clouds took over the sky and the accompanying strong wind provided relief to residents from the heat. Residents, however, had a tough time commuting as a dust storm preceded the shower.

The city was awash within 15 minutes and people felt relieved as it was a pleasant start to the weekend. India Meteorological Department (IMD) believes that the pleasant weather will last the weekend. “These sudden showers will be a regular feature this month,” an IMD official said

The maximum temperature was 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday which came down to 38 degrees Celsius following the rain on Friday. Thunderstorm and lightning were also reported from different parts of the city.

According to IMD officials, the region will witness thunderstorm and dust storm this week. However, there is no respite from the heat in sight, with the weatherman saying the temperature will remain on the higher side for most of this month till the monsoon hits the region.

“Both minimum and maximum temperatures in the region are recorded above normal. These sudden showers are part of the heat wave,” said an IMD official.
