Ten new police stations start functioning in Gurgaon

The 10 new police stations in Gurgaon formally started functioning from Monday thus taking the total number of police stations in the city to 35. These police stations are divided in three zones — east, west and south.

The new police stations are PS New Colony, PS Shivaji Nagar, PS Sector-14, PS Sector-9A, PS Bajghera, PS Sector-50, PS Sector-53, PS City Sohna, PS Sector-37, and PS industrial Sector 7, Manesar, a police spokesperson said.

City police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar inaugurated the IMT Manesar police station, where he planted a sapling, and inspected the building of the new facility.

A havan was also organised at all the police station to mark the event and sweets were distributed among the staff, said a police spokesperson.

The Gurgaon police also issued the list of 10 police inspectors, who will head the stations, while reiterating that this move will substantially help in improving law and order in the city.

On April 11, the Haryana government had announced the setting up of 10 police stations in Gurgaon.

At present, there are 3,780 police personnel serving in 25 police stations apart from special branches that look after law and order.

The number of sanctioned posts in Gurgaon is 4,922 and there is a shortage of over 1,000 police personnel at various levels in the city police. However, the police is expecting 500 new recruits to join the ranks within the next few weeks.

The jurisdiction of the new police stations has also been defined and 19 areas will come under the New Colony police station which has been carved out of the City police station. Likewise, 20 areas of city police station have been transferred to Shivaji Nagar police station.

The work of Civil Lines police station will be lesser as 17 areas will go to Sector 14 police station.

Twelve areas of Sector 5 police station will now be policed by Sector 4 police station.

New Bajghera police station will have jurisdiction over 18 areas which were with Palam Vihar police station earlier. Thirteen areas of Manesar police station will now be with industrial sector 7 Manesar police station.

Nine areas of Sohna police station will be transferred to Sohna city police station.

Seven areas of Kherki Daula police station have been shifted to sector 37 police station.
