The city police commissioner on Wednesday asked village heads to launch a tenant verification drive at the earliest. Police commissioner Alok Mittal reiterated the fact that verifying the identity and permanent addresses of tenants should be given top priority.
"In the absence of proper verification, the police find it difficult to nab criminals in many cases," said the police commissioner.
Mittal told the sarpanches that they should hold regular awareness drives to sensitise troublesome residents, in the age group of 18 to 25 years, about the importance of law and order.
The sarpanches were also told not to allow consumption of liquor in public places. They were also advised to condemn crimes against women and work towards curbing such incidents.
To ensure that police helpline numbers are available to all residents, village heads were asked to display the numbers on walls of community buildings in their respective villages.
