The joint commissioner of police on Sunday night conducted a surprise inspection to take stock of security along the Mall Mile.
Joint commissioner Anil Rao acted on feedback from residents who said that the security measures in the area were inadequate. After the survey, he issued directions to ensure more visibility of PCR vans on MG Road.
"To increase police visibility and instill confidence among visitors, all PCR vans and motorcycle-borne policemen have been asked to use the siren frequently. They have also been told to use their beacon light reflectors constantly," Rao said.
The city police have also increased the number of women personnel. About 75 women cops, including four women officers, have been deployed on MG Road, Sushant Lok, Golf Course Road, Sector 56 and all DLF City areas. The police, at present, has a strength of 53 PCR vans and 44 riders.
"I would keep visiting the MG Road till I am satisfied. It will take some time to regulate the traffic and to facilitate a hassle-free shopping experience for visitors," added Rao.
While each police zone will now have an all-women PCR vans, Rao also issued directions for new fluorescent jackets and hand-held reflectors for police personnel.
In the wake of concerns raised over poor policing, the Gurgaon police also launched a special drive on Saturday to crackdown on hooligans.
