Two held of vehicle theft and robbery

The city police on Monday arrested two persons involved in more than 50 cases of motorbike thefts and robberies.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as 21-year-old Shakir, a native of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, and 25-year-old Nitin Kumar, a resident of Gurgaon.

The police arrested the two after getting a tip-off that a gang was planning a robbery near Pratap Nagar.

“We got the information that a gang had been planning a robbery in the area. When the police personnel from City police station reached the spot, the robbers tried to flee. However, we managed to catch two of them,” said a police office.

The police have also recovered six stolen bike, two iron rods and two torches.

Inspector Babu Lal, station house officer of the City police station, said, “The duo was involved in more than 50 cases. They were involved in recent cases of motorbike thefts from Sector 5 and other areas.”

Shakir and Nitin became friends a month back and planned snatchings and vehicle thefts together. The used to enter the city after 9pm and rob commuters on dark stretches,” said Babulal.

On Tuesday, both the accused were produced in a city court, which sent them to two-day police remand, a senior police officer said.
