Senior leader of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Ashok Singhal, 89, who was admitted to the Medanta Medicity Hospital on Friday night, continues to be in the intensive care unit. Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, including Union home minister Rajnath Singh and Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar visited him at the hospital on Sunday.

According to sources, Singhal’s condition was critical.

On Saturday, Union health minister JP Nadda and BJP president Amit Shah had visited the senior leader at the hospital along with Haryana ministers Rao Narbir and Tejpal Tanwar.

Cabinet minister Uma Bharti, VHP international working president Pravin Togadia and VHP vice-president Omprakash Singhal also visited the hospital on Sunday.

Singhal was brought to the hospital from Allahabad with the help of an air ambulance during the navratra celebrations about a month ago. He was complaining of breathlessness, chest congestion and pain. After the treatment, he was discharged four days ago on Thursday.

However, he was rushed back to the hospital on Friday with the same complaints.

Singhal is a cardiac patient and has not been keeping well for some time. Hospital sources confirmed that he was under observation and was being monitored by three departments including that for respiratory health.

Ashok Singhal has been a senior national leader of the right wing organisation, VHP, and has held the position of its international working president for about 20 years.
