In order to curb haphazard parking, the city traffic police will start clamping the wheels of vehicles parked in ‘no-parking’ areas instead of towing away, from Tuesday.

The police have procured about 70 clamps for this purpose. Till now, the police used to challan the owners of wrongly parked vehicles or deflate the tyres or tow away them to police stations. Maheshwar Dayal, joint commissioner of police, said, “This is the first time we have launched this drive. It will cause any damage to the vehicles and save a lot of time. The vehicle will be de-clamped only after the owner pays up the fine.”

The city traffic police have taken many initiatives to streamline vehicular movement. The police put up 150 barricades on MG Road.

The haphazard parking by vehicle owners causes huge inconvenience to general public. The city police’s efforts to curb illegal parking have failed to yield much result.
