The city police on Tuesday nabbed a woman for aiding the frightening abduction and gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl.

The victim, who is 16-weeks pregnant, was sexually assaulted by three men in March. One of the accused, Subhash, was arrested immediately and is currently behind bars.

“We arrested Khushbu from near Himgiri Chowk in Gurgaon. After interrogation, she was produced before a court which remanded her to 14-days’ judicial custody,” deputy commissioner of police (west) Surindra Pal told HT.

Police suspect the remaining two men, Suraj and Alam, to be hiding in Bihar. Pal said a team of Gurgaon police is camping in Purnea district to nab the two, one of whom is Khushbu’s brother.

According to the police complaint, the daughter of a migrant labourer from Rajasthan was abducted by the three men with the aid of Khushbu from near her house at Kadipur village on February 22. She was raped over several days before being abandoned.

The victim’s medico legal report prepared by the doctors on March 12 at Civil Hospital had confirmed rape and pregnancy.

However, it took a court order on May 30 for the hospital to finally tend to the victim on Monday.

To add insult to injury, the hospital referred the victim to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital as doctors at Civil Hospital thought her case was too critical to be taken care of at their level. At Safdarjung too, her case hit a bureaucratic hurdle.

She was admitted after a long persuasion as doctors there initially asked her family members to bring her to the out-patient department on Tuesday because the referral letter from Civil Hospital didn’t mention the criticality of the case.

The hospital, on its part, said that she was referred to Safdarjung on the wish of her family.
