In yet another cyber fraud, the city police have registered a case against a woman who had posted defamatory remarks against a bureaucrat posted at Andaman and Nicobar on her Facebook wall. She allegedly was peeved that the officer from the civil services had deserted his wife, a friend of the accused, for another woman.

The police are yet to confirm the identity of the ‘friend’, as they suspect that the wife might have created a fake facebook account to defame her husband.

According to the police, the charges were filed against the accused after three months of investigation on the complaint of Vikram Singh (name changed), a resident of Malibu Towne.

The police said, in September, the accused, Gagandeep Gill, posted certain comments on her Facebook page showing the officer in poor light.

Cyber Crime cell inspector Suresh Kumar said, “We have conducted a preliminary probe. The IP address of the computer used for posting the comments has also been traced in Hisar.”

The victim told Hindustan Times, “I do not know who Gagandeep Gill is? I got married in 2007. My divorce case is pending in a Rohtak court but my wife is living in the official house allotted to me by the government. The IP address which has been revealed is unknown to me. But whosoever has tried to spoil my image will not be forgiven."

The case has been registered under sections 66 and 67 of the IT Act.
