In yet another grim reminder of how unsafe the city is for women, a 32-year-old Noida resident was allegedly molested, assaulted and robbed by four autorickshaw drivers on Wednesday evening in Sector 52, Gurgaon.

The accused have been identified as Rajesh (22), Sudhir (22), Sunny (20) and Pankaj (18). All residents of Wazirabad village in Gurgaon, they were arrested on Thursday and sent in police remand for a day by the court.

According to the police, the victim, employed in the housekeeping division of a private company in Noida, had come to Gurgaon for some work in the provident fund (PF) office. She alleged that an auto driver gave her a drink laced with sedatives which made her unconscious.

The woman, who lives with her husband in Noida, came to Gurgaon by bus and visited the PF office in Sector 43. Around 5pm, she came to Iffco Chowk. “From here, I planned to go to my sister’s house nearby and boarded an auto.

The driver offered me a drink which made me drowsy. I felt someone trying to molest me and snatch my purse. The driver was joined by three other men. They then assaulted me,” the victim said.
