The women police station in the city became operational on August 28 but two months on, details regarding the station are not available on the Gurgaon police website.
Some sections of the police website were updated after HT contacted the police station on Monday morning. Now, there is an image on the right side of the website with the title ‘Women Police Station’, and has the station house officer’s (SHO) number, email address and the two contact numbers of the police station.
But when HT tried calling on the mentioned number, it was found that the number was SHO Umesh Bala’s personal phone number and not the official one.
The official numbers are handled by the in-charge of a particular police station and remains the same even when the SHO is transferred. Sources said these numbers help in creating uniformity and consistency.
Moreover, the scroll bar on the website with the title ‘Select your police station’ has a mention of the women police station, but with a wrong spelling.
Also, the option does not open to a new link. It is not possible for the residents to obtain information such as the address, jurisdiction, contact details of the station house officer (SHO), additional police commissioner (ACP) and the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), and the police district from the scroll bar. All the information is, however, clearly mentioned for the other 26 stations, including traffic and metro police stations.
“I went to the website of the Gurgaon police station and checked the scroll bar to look for the women police station. I could find the name but the link did not open,” said Nikita Sharma, a 22-year-old college student.
“We know that there are several things that need to be updated on the website. We are undertaking the same and residents will soon see an updated version of the website,” said Nazneen Bhasin, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (headquarters), Gurgaon.
