Nearly 59 women and their guides participated in the women’s car rally that was flagged off from ABW Towers, IFFCO Chowk, at 9am on Saturday.

The car rally, the seventh of its kind, was organised by NGO Uthaan.

The convoy — carrying flags, stickers and slogans on womanhood — drove through the roads of rural Haryana and Rajasthan.

The convoy culminated at the Cambay Golf Resort in Jaipur.

“I have participated for the first time in the rally. It is about your confidence to drive,” said Roopa, a vaastu expert from New Delhi.

She said she got to know about the rally from Gurgaon Moms — a prominent group on the social networking website, Facebook.

The vehicles were inspected for their speed limit, average time to complete three laps by eight marshals.

Dressed in military camouflage pants and cowboy hats, the marshals infused spirit into the rally.

“The idea behind the women’s car rally is to make them bold and help them get rid off their fear. All the seven rallies have promoted the same idea and it keeps getting better each year,” said Sanjay Kaushik, the brainchild behind the event and founder of NGO Uthaan.

He said it took them three months to organise the event which included registration of participants, chalking out the route, preparing the navigation handouts, deciding on directions, etc.
