Traffic snarls at the Kherki Daula toll plaza will soon be a thing of the past.
The Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL) has resumed work on the toll's expansion plan wherein two more lanes will be added on the Delhi-Manesar side and one more on the Manesar-Delhi side.
With this, the capacity of the toll will increase from the existing 16 to 19 lanes.
A company official said the expansion work would be completed within three to nine months.
Vehicle sensors, CCTV cameras, computers and other gadgets to synchronise work will also be installed at the toll collection booths.
The operator has already submitted details of adding two more lanes on the Delhi-Gurgaon side and one on the Gurgaon-Delhi side to the NHAI. These would be done in the existing right- of-way (ROW) in the land available.
"We will also have provision of two additional reversible lanes to improve the flow of traffic during the peak hours. As per the original plan, land near the toll plaza has not been made available to us as the matter is pending in the court. Regarding expansion beyond the ROW, we have sent a proposal to the NHAI to make more land available adjacent to the toll plaza for its expansion," the spokesperson added.
Earlier, the operator had initiated work to construct the addition toll lanes but the matter was dragged to the Delhi high court by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) due to operation and maintenance issues.
This had delayed the expansion plan. Later, the matter was settled out of court and the DGSCL resumed expansion work last month.
Kherki Daula witnesses massive traffic jams every day as the toll plaza is located on the busy NH-8. It is also the main link to the industrial hub of Manesar.
