Work on projects to trigger mess

Even as the Rapid Metro expansion plan and the upcoming Huda-DLF Sector road, from Cyber City to the Sector 55/56 junction, are all set to change the face of Golf Course Road, commuters will have to bear the brunt till at least September next year, when the road is likely to be ready.

While work on the second phase of the Rapid Metro begins by the end of this month, the Huda-DLF sector road is already under construction. The Rapid Metro project has a deadline of July 2015.

Since construction of the mammoth road and rail infrastructure projects will be carried out almost simultaneously on a stretch of nearly 8.3 kilometre, experts fear traffic will be thrown out of gear as Golf Course Road is a major link road in Gurgaon and is used by lakhs of motorists every day.

The stretch, on both sides, is dotted with half a dozen malls and over two dozen office complexes of multi-national companies, besides hundreds of residential complexes, including posh high-rise condominiums of DLF City (Phase 4 and 5).

The Golf Course Road is also important as for a few localities, it is the only getaway to the Mall Mile, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, and the expressway.

With diversions like the ones at the Sector 27/28 crossing and Sector 42/27 crossing already creating chaos, commuters fear the worst is still to come.

The major traffic bottlenecks are likely to be at the Sikandarpur Chowk, Sector 27/28 crossing, Sector 42/27 crossing and Genpact crossing.

Commuters hope that the authorities concerned work out feasible alternative routes and diversions till the time the two big-ticket projects are completed. However, this also seems difficult as there is no alternative or parallel road along Golf Course Road.

“Authorities could have completed one project first, said Rashmi Sood of DLF City.
