Several youths claimed to have been duped by dubious placement agencies on the pretext of providing jobs in Maruti Suzuki.

A majority of the candidates, hailing from UP, Punjab and Bihar, had received offer letters in which they were asked to join the Manesar plant by Thursday.

However, the youths were shocked when they reached the company and were informed that the plant is locked out after last month’s violence.

Security guards also asked the victims to move out.

The candidates claimed that they had been duped of Rs. 3,000- Rs. 5,000 each and were promised ID cards by the fake agencies.

Dhruv Kumar, hailing from Lucknow, said, “I was asked to inform company officials about my arrival in Gurgaon. But the receiver used abusive language.”
“Sri Shyam Labour and Security Service Placement Agency took R3,000 from me and R1,000 for uniform and ID. I was told that I had been chosen as a supervisor,” said Jasveer Singh.

Another firm, GSM Placement Agency, on the Kapashera border allegedly assured on-the-spot appointment as soon as a fee of R1,010 is paid. The agency also allegedly promised to refund the amount after the candidate received his second salary.

HT spoke to Pooja Singh, secretary with GSM Placements. She said, “We conduct hiring for Maruti Suzuki and charge for the uniform and ID cards in advance.”
