A mother of two daughters was reportedly found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence in Mullana under mysterious circumstances late of on Thursday night.

The victim — identified as Manju Rani (28) —was married to Pardeep Kumar, an employee with a private engineering college, in February 2007 and was the mother of two daughters of five and two years.

Following the complaint of the victims’ father Som Dutt of Mahesh Nagar in Ambala Cantt, police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 498-A (a married woman subjected to cruelty by husband or relative) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In his complaint, Dutt alleged that her daughter who was harassed repeatedly was killed by her in-laws.

Sources with police said Pardeep, his brother Ramesh Kumar and mother Raj Rani were booked in this connection and further action would be taken after the post-mortem report was received.

MM Medical College’s forensic medicine head, who has conducted the autopsy, said the deceased’s viscera had been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Madhuban and the actual cause of death — whether she died of poisoning or hanging or strangulation — would be known after the FSL report.
