The onset of summer can be a nightmare for people with oily skin. Choose the right skin care products to protect your face from zits. Check out dos and don’ts to keep your skin healthy, glowing and blemish-free.
1Wash your face only twice a day:If you overwash your face, the skin signals your oil glands to overproduce oil, making it greaser. So, limit the excessive skin cleansing so that your skin can balance itself naturally.
2Don’t use soap:Soaps can damage the skin by making it drier, rougher and more permeable to bacteria. Chemicals in soaps are harsh and not good for the facial skin. It’s also said to be a cause of acne.
3Look for face washes with salicylic acid in it:Facewash should be used instead of soaps but any facewash won’t do. Choose one with salicylic acid, which is naturally derived from willow bark. It helps get rid of blackheads and whiteheads. It also reduces oil production. The percentage should be at least one percent to have enough efficacy.
4Use moisturiser twice a day:No matter how oily your skin is, it still needs moisture to stay healthy. Look for gentle gels that are free from fragrance, colour and paraben to let your skin breathe.
5Wear sunblock:The sun has UVA and UVB rays which initially may seem to be drying up those pimples. But they worsen the acne in the long run. Also, the sun can worsen the acne marks. Hence, using a sunscreen, especially in summers, is a must.
Stock up on calcium: 99% of the calcium in our bodies is stored in our bones and teeth as it supports their structure. It is recommended that an adult have 1,000 mg of calcium intake daily to make sure the depletion in the bones is not severe. Taking supplements is advisable after 30 years of age.
Soak up the sun: You may have adequate calcium in your diet, but it is not supplemented by vitamin D, which enables the body to absorb calcium. Sunshine is the easiest source of vitamin D. So, spend 10-15 minutes in the sun daily.
Excercise: Like most other organs, it is important to make sure your bones remain active and stay strong and healthy.
Quit alcohol: Though moderate alcohol consumption will not cause any harm, an excess of booze does hamper the functioning of vitamin D and hence can cause a loss in the bone density. Smoking is another factor that speeds up bone loss. So, cut down on smoking and drinking.
