It is hard to imagine Malaika Arora married, even harder to imagine her as a mom. Despite a busy schedule, the yummy mummy can make any woman half her age turn green with envy with her luscious hair and smooth complexion. In an interview with AsiaSpa India, the diva shares what keeps her glowing.
What’s your mantra for being beautiful?
Following a regular skincare regimen is a must, but being beautiful inside is more important than being beautiful outside. For this, one needs to lead a healthy lifestyle. Have lots of fruits and fresh juices, sleep on time, drink lots of water, exercise regularly, keep an active lifestyle, stay away from smoking, and have alcohol in moderation. We are all probably aware of all this but too lazy to follow.
Tell us about your skin care routine.
I follow a basic routine of using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser regularly. While people put on make-up regularly, I believe in being ‘au naturel’ whenever I can and let my skin breathe. On days when I am not working, I do not use any makeup. All I would have on is a moisturiser and a lip gloss, and perhaps a little mascara and kajal for my eyes. I wear makeup only when I am working. I am very much into home remedies. I make and apply fruit packs of papaya, mango, strawberry, kiwis and tomatoes. I also make oat meal packs and almond scrubs on my own. Many a times I use on my skin the fruits that I eat.
How do you keep your scalp and hair healthy?
I make my hair oils myself with the recipes given by my mother and massage well on the scalp to keep my hair healthy. I go for a hair spa once a week for deep conditioning. I try to protect my hair from chlorine as much as I can, but when I go for a swim at a pool, I make sure that after the swim I rinse my hair properly with clean water. I even use a little vinegar to rinse off the chlorine at times. Eggs are the best for the hair and scalp, and are a natural conditioner. I even use left-over beer in the house as a conditioner.
A beauty advice for our readers?
It is important to stay healthy and feel beautiful, not for someone else but for yourself. You should feel good about yourself, especially after motherhood. I have seen a lot of women who get caught up with the responsibilities towards their child and the house that they forget their own self. It is important to look after your own needs and pamper yourself too, if not regularly but once-in-a-while
