Our hair is our crowning glory, and any problem we may have with it always causes us distress. Both women and men can suffer from hair loss, though often the reasons for it are different, which means that treatments vary.
Bring back your hair!
The growth and regeneration of hair depends on correct nutrition. Protein grows the hair and gives it strength, but too much protein means that the hair follicle and body become so acidic that hair begins to fall.
For vegetarians, protein sources are usually low in acid. Get your protein from sprouts, tofu, black and white channa, lobhia, green peas, green choliya, etc. Though dairy foods are animal products, they are also a source of proteins acceptable to vegetarians.
Non-vegetarians can get protein from poultry, meat and fish. But since such sources are almost 100 per cent protein, it is easy to over-consume protein. To prevent acid build-up, non vegetarians must eat alkaline foods like veg juices, salads and soups.
All fruits are very rich in the B group of vitamins and in vitamin C. Both are very important for adequate hair growth. So eat two different fruits like oranges, pomegranates, apples, pineapples, guavas, bananas, grapes, etc., daily. Herbs like triphala, amla juice and tulsi are good.
Nuts provide essential fatty acids important for hair growth. Eat flaxseeds, olives, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, sunflower or sesame seeds every day.
Vegetables Mix carrot, beetroot, pumpkin, lauki, mint, spinach, ginger, celery and aloe vera into a health cocktail.
Common reasons for hair fall:
1. Hormonal changes just after pregnancy
2. Quick weight loss (more than 2-3 kilos a month)
3. Inadequate nourishment of hair
4. Nutritional deficiencies
5. A very high-protein or high-acid diet not balanced by alkaline food
6. Weak liver
7. After-effects of a disease
8. The use of strong and harsh hair colours, gels and styling products
9. Sinusitis or migraine
