Medical professionals and patients across the country have some help coming their way — in the form of a small, portable device called the eUNO R 10. The eUNO R 10 connects the results of a patient’s ECG (electrocardiogram) directly from the machine to the Blackberry smartphone of the cardiologist, wherever he may be located.
Maestros Mediline Systems Limited, the firm that produces the device, has tied with Research in Motion and Vodafone to create a speedier means by which patients can reach their cardiologists and receive immediate health care without having to go through the laborious process of visiting their clinics.
The device is likely to be beneficial to patients who suffer from heart ailments, or have had previous bypass surgery. “Heart disease is the number two killer in the country and the solution is to quickly diagnose it and attend to it,” said Dr Pavan Kumar, cardiovascular surgeon who practises at Nanavati Hospital. The device costs roughly Rs 30,000.
