As the season transitions from summer to fall, your skin care regime, too, needs a reboot. During fall, your skin tends to get dry, rough and flaky, and it begins to lack lustre and glow. Here’s how to go about switching products and incorporating beauty habits to keep glowing.
During summer, due to damage, the skin tends to develop a cellular build-up on its surface. To make sure your fall skin care products work properly on your skin, it is necessary to get rid of this layer. Use gentle, natural and pH balanced scrubs. Or make your own scrub with natural ingredients, such as oatmeal and gram flour mixed with orange peel, to bring out refreshed skin from under the cellular layer.
Use season- friendly products
Water-based cleansers used in summers might be pleasing to smell, but they could rob your skin of its natural oils. Use cream- based, moisturising cleansers to give your skin the hydration it requires. Also, swap your water-based moisturiser with a rich cream. If your skin is very dry, apply facial oils such as jojoba and olive oil. They are great for moisturising and absorb easily into your skin.
Take care of your hands and nails
Hands and nails require just as much attention as the face. Use a non-greasy but rich hand cream to keep your hands soft. To keep your palms soft, take a few sugar granules, add a few drops of lemon and rub between both palms.
Pamper your feet
Your feet, too, need proper care. Make sure you get rid of dead skin cells by using a foot scrub once a week. To keep the feet soft and supple, use petroleum jelly and rich moisturising foot creams. You can also use coconut oil or glycerin to heal cracks.
Say yes to lip balms
Lips balms and chap sticks are absolute must-haves during fall. You can make your own lip balm by mixing bee wax, coconut oil, honey and Vitamin E capsules too. Saffron strands mixed in white butter and applied on the lips before bedtime to avoid darkening is a great trick too.
Protect yourself from harmful UV radiations by using a sunscreen that ranges from 15 to 40 SPF. To get rid of tan, mix gram flour, sandalwood powder, raw milk and a few drops of lemon and honey. Mix well and apply on face. Scrub gently in circular motions while washing off the pack with luke warm water.
Have a healthy diet
It is very important to eat well to maintain your skin’s natural glow. Drink enough water every day to ensure that your skin remains hydrated. Also, eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. Try and eat foods that are rich in minerals, vitamins and proteins. Your daily diet must include foods such as milk, eggs, cream, nuts, mushrooms, legumes, peas, carrots, beetroot, spinach and oranges.

Make your own beauty potions
Soak a few almonds overnight, peel the skin and grind to a fine paste. Add 2 teaspoons of raw milk, 1 teaspoon of gram flour and a few drops of lemon juice to this paste. Apply this pack on the face and leave it for 20 minutes.
Use some aloe vera gel straight from the plant to moisturise the skin. Grate carrots and apply on the face for 15 to 20 minutes. Carrot is rich in Vitamin A, good for nourishing the skin and suits all skin types.
Applying honey on the face daily for 10 minutes and washing it off with water restores skin glow. Add a little egg yolk or almond oil if your skin is dry. For normal to oily skin, add egg white and lemon juice to the honey.
Dry skin can be treated by applying thick paste of one ripe banana, half a papaya, and one avocado. Use this paste on the face, neck and other dry areas and wait for 15 minutes. Wash it off with warm water. This is an active home remedy for dry skin as it not only makes your skin soft but also lightens scars.
