Concerned over the dawdling approach of successive governments towards the acceptance of legitimate demands, the Himachal Block Development Officers (BDO) Association on Monday urged the government to announce at least 30% promotional quota in the Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) in the larger interest of the association members.
The members of the association said since the government has already inducted the revenue officers of the 1997-batch in HAS, the lackadaisical approach towards the long standing demand of the association would lead to demoralisation of the cadre.
The association members, who held a meeting under the chairmanship of SD Negi, project officer, district rural development agency, unanimously resolved and demanded from the government that since BDOs were the lone agency to implement a large number of state and centrally sponsored welfare schemes, including MNREGA, social justice, cooperative movement, members of parliament and MLAs local area development funds, the government should give a serious thought towards providing a promotional platform to BDOs.
The members further resolved and demanded that according to the merit list of the state public service commission, all tehsildars appointed in 1997 have been inducted into HAS, while BDOs who have been serving since early 90s, were still working on the same post.
Similarly, tehsildars of 2005 batch have been shortlisted for induction into HAS, but the government has not initiated any step to induct BDOs in administrative services, till date.
The meeting finally urged the government to announce 30% quota to BDOs in HAS as it would further help in implementing the developmental schemes at administrative level.
