Director Zack Snyder just tweeted the official first look of Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa's next film, Aquaman.

The image shows Momoa in costume with an almost metallic hue. In his hand is a five-pointed 'trident' and his body is covered in tattoos. The slogan 'Unite the Seven' is emblazoned in bold letters across The King of the Seven Seas.

Jason Momoa became a household name after his memorable turn as Khal Drogo in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. He made his directorial debut with the quiet indie 'Road to Paloma' last year. He is often typecast as a gruff, heroic type with a heart of gold.

Snyder, director of comic book fare like 300, Watchmen and Man of Steel is currently in post-production on the Superman sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (in which Momoa is rumoured to make his debut as Aquaman). He will follow that with Justice League Part One in November 2017 and Justice League Part 2 in November 2019. He is known for his unique style that imbibes his genre films with highly stylized visuals, slo-mo action and retro soundtracks. After his somewhat uncharacteristic direction of Man of Steel, he seems to be going back to his basics for the future of the DC Universe, for which he has been appointed the de-facto godfather.

The solo Aquaman film is sandwiched between the two and is currently scheduled for a July 2018 release.

Following the success of Marvel Studios Cinematic Universe, Warner Brothers announced their own film universe featuring superheroes from the DC Comics roster.

Zack Snyder tweets rarely, but when he does, it makes a huge splash. He also tweeted the first looks of The Batmobile, Batman and Wonder Woman.

There are currently no plot details on the film, neither has any director or other cast been announced.
