How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris talks about his directorial debut
You love him for his comic act and Barneyisms. Now, actor Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the cocky Barney Stinson on hit American sitcom How I Met Your Mother, is donning the director’s hat. 'I’m directing a film called Aaron and Sarah this summer that should probably come out next year,' says the actor, adding, 'This is going be a crazy year. I’m in three movies that are coming out this year. One is called Beastly, then Harold & Kumar 3, and the Smurfs movie.'
Direction though doesn’t come new to Harris, 37, who shot to stardom with his breakout role in the sitcom that has also been credited for much of the show’s success. He is currently starring in season six of the show that airs in India on Friday on STAR World. Talking about his much loved character Barney, Harris says, 'I’m so honoured to be playing Barney. It’s one of those great suits you get to wear for most of the year and thankfully he wears nice suits so it works out well.'
How similar is he to Barney in real life? 'In many ways I’m wildly different but in many ways I’m similar. I’m also always kind of looking for a joke, but I’m much more settled down then he is,' he says.
Ask him if he uses Barneyisms in reality, he says, 'I don’t say ‘Suit up’ but I say ‘awesome’ a lot in real life.'
