Thanks to its release in China, The Dark Knight Rises is back at the top of the global box office.
From August 31 to September 2, the blockbuster netted $52.28 million in 65 countries, providing a sufficient boost to lift it back to the top of the charts. Released on August 27 in China, the movie was able to dislodge another Hollywood powerhouse, The Expendables 2, from the first spot, relegating it to third place with $28.8 million across 21 countries, according to data from Rentrak. The final chapter of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy has grossed more than a billion dollars since its release.
Second place goes to The Amazing Spider-Man, which raked in $33.7 million in 59 territories. Once again, success in Chinese theaters propelled the film towards the top of the global charts.
The Possession claimed fourth place with global earnings $21.23 million, as it took possession of the top spot in North America ($17.73 million). The Bourne Legacy is fifth with $19.85 million across 38 countries.
