Why aren’t you laughing yet? Oh wait! This is nothing to laugh about. DC just released the first trailer for their upcoming animated movie. Batman: The Killing Joke and it is serious business.

The movie is based on the popular 1988 graphic novel of the same name, and will be voiced by the actors from the original Batman animated series, Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamill (The Joker). It is produced by Bruce Timm and directed by Sam Liu.

The movie will include a 15-minute prologue to set up the story and give diehard Batman fans some new content. Batman: the Killing Joke has been attributed an R rating from the MPAA due to producers’ intentions to stick as closely to the dark and occasionally shocking nature of the original comics.

In January of this year, it was revealed that Batman: The Killing Joke will premiere at San Diego Comic Con, which takes place between July 21-24. An official release date has not yet been announced, but the movie will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital HD.
