The first images from the highly anticipated superhero sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill have been released.
Breaking the trend of releasing official images via social media, these new images arrive courtesy EW.
It'll be interesting to theorize about the circumstances which brought Bruce Wayne and Diana together. If the image seems familiar to you then look no further than Christian Bale and Marion Cotillard (or Anne Hathaway for that matter) in The Dark Knight Rises.
It also turns out that Jesse Eisenberg won't be sporting the bald look for the whole movie after all and it certainly is a surprise to see Luthor with a full head of hair. Perhaps losing it was the reason he turned evil. What remains to be seen is whether this is pulled from some sort of flashback or if we'll be treated to an in-depth origin story.
Ben Affleck also had a few fascinating things to say about his version of Bruce Wayne in an interview with EW.
"Batman is basically the American version of Hamlet. We accept that he's played by actors with different interpretations," he says. And this isn't the first time we've heard an actor compare playing a superhero with playing a Shakespearean character. Aside from the outright references in Thor, Mark Ruffalo made a similar comparison with Hulk.
Confirming that this isn't Batman's first time at the rodeo, Affleck said, 'He's at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life. There's this sort of world-weariness to it.'
The images themselves are a rather mixed bag. Warner Bros. seem to be playing this one close to the chest. The superhero bits look as stylish as ever, but the Luthor and Diana images have a slight flatness to them.
