Call it post production issues, marketing gimmicks or the magnanimous 3D work that goes into the making of their movies — even Hollywood doesn’t always get it right. The result — delay in their release dates than what were announced in the beginning.

Call it post production issues, marketing gimmicks or the magnanimous 3D work that goes into the making of their movies — even Hollywood doesn’t always get it right. The result — delay in their release dates than what were announced in the beginning. Here is a list of some big budget Hollywood films that have been postponed after having created a lot of hoopla surrounding the dates of their release.

Robocop
A remake of the 1987 classic sci-fi action film, in which a police officer is gunned down and brought back to duty as a cyborg, was due to release in August 2013. But the film starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson and Abbie Cornish will now be hitting theatres only in February 2014, as the makers need time to convert the flick into 3D.

The Great Gatsby

Based on the popular novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a love triangle in a Post World War I setting in the US, the film directed by Baz Luhrrman was supposed to hit the theatres on Christmas this year. However, the Leonardo DiCaprio-Toby Maguire-Kirtsen Dunst starrer has been pushed for a May 10, 2013 release due to marketing issues.

Gangster Squad
Zombieland’s director Ruben Fleischer’s period crime drama was originally set to release on September 7, 2012. However, the release of the film — starring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone — was shifted to a January 11, 2013 as it required re-shooting a scene which originally showed a movie theatre shootout. It is being reworked in the wake of Aurora, Colorado massacre that happened during the screening of The Dark Knight Rises. The movie takes a look into the lives of the Los Angles Police Department detectives and gangsters in 1940s and 1950s.

G.I.Joe: Retaliation
The much-awaited sequel to the 2009 flick, was all set to release on June 29, 2012. However, its makers decided to postpone it to March 29, 2013 to add to the post-production value and 3D effects. This time the G.I.Joe team will be seen fighting dreadful and dangerous villains like Zartan, Storm Shadow and Firefly, all serving under the Cobra Commander. Actor Channing Tatum reprises his role as the lead character and joining him this time are Hollywood’s veterans such as Bruce Willis and wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

Elysium
Directed by Neil Blomkamp, the sci-fi action movie was earlier slated to release in December 2012. But the release date was then shifted to March 1, 2013. However, it has further been postponed due to post production issues to August 9, 2013. Set in the year 2159, the events in the Matt Damon and Jodie Foster starrer take place on a ravaged Earth and a space station named Elysium where Damon fights to bring equality in the two worlds.
