The new Twilight film Breaking Dawn Part 1 raked in more than 300 million pounds in a world record-breaking opening weekend.
In the US alone, advance ticket sales for the latest vampire blockbuster topped 80 million pounds, with packed houses at cinemas in 33 other countries, including the UK.
The American total was slightly lower than the previous best US opening weekend figure, which was for the Harry Potter finale Deathly Hallows Part 2.
"Breaking Dawn will easily eclipse the previous Twilight films and could even eventually pass the magic billion dollar mark," the Daily Express quoted LA media analyst Mike Raia as saying.
