When she first arrived in the US, there were only two things she could say in English — “How are you?” and “I want to work with Johnny Depp”. Over the years, actor Penelope Cruz’s success turned the tables for her and as for working with Depp, she fulfilled her dream by working with him in Blow (2001).
The 37-year-old Oscar-winner has reunited with Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the comedy adventure franchise, which is releasing worldwide on Friday in 3D.
“Depp is so kind to everyone and he has a really brilliant mind. He’s one of the funniest people I know and has a big heart. When you work with somebody like that, it’s special. He is a unique person,” adds the actor.
Cruz, who plays Angelica — the first ever female pirate in the film franchise, says she enjoyed being a pirate. “Both Jack and Angelica are trying to find The Fountain of Youth... The whole time they are tricking each other but are also helping each other,” she says.
To prepare for her role, Cruz learnt how to sword fight. “I trained for two months before we started shooting for the movie,” she says.
