With just four main characters, and none of them exactly innocent, housebound horror Don’t Breathe puts three burglars in close quarters with a blind old man and his supposed $300,000 stash.

- What’s it about? -

Rocky lives at home with her neglectful parents and her younger sister. It’s not exactly a happy existence -- Rocky plans to escape with her sister as soon as she saves enough funds.

Where’s that cash coming from? Rocky, her boyfriend Money, and their friend Alex have already formed a tight little house-robbery crew. So when Money suggests they break into a blind man’s house for the $300,000 it holds, she’s in.

Turns out the old guy is an army veteran and, once inside, they’re on his territory -- a space he knows inside out and one that might hold more than a few surprises. Will anyone get out alive?

- Who’s in it? -

Jane Levy comes in as Rocky, after a four-year stint on US sitcom Suburgatory, appearing as the antagonist in 2013’s Evil Dead reboot, and taking the lead role in Toronto International Film Festival winning musical sci-fi drama Bang Bang Baby.

Daniel Zovatto of Fear the Walking Dead and recent horror films It Follows is tattooed boyfriend Money, with Dylan Minnette of TV series Saving Grace and Awake, as well as “Goosebumps and Let Me In, as Alex.

Stephen Lang, who played Colonel Quaritch in Avatar, returns to a military role as the blind man.

- Who’s behind it? -

Uraguayan director Fede Alvarez made his feature film debut with the 2013 Evil Dead reboot. In many ways this second full-length film is a very different beast, though still brutal and supremely tense.

- Is it any good? -

Reviewers have been enthusiastic about Don’t Breathe -- especially those writing for genre specialist sites -- since its premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March, leading to an 86% approval and 7.4/10 average on Rotten Tomatoes and a 71% score on Metacritic. Members of its wider audience have been even more likely to endorse it, with an 8.4/10 score from nearly 1,000 user reviews on IMDb.

- When’s it out? -

The R-rated Don’t Breathe goes on wide release in the US and Canada from August 26, and is expected to arrive in India on September 2.
