The lines above come from none other than Hollywood actor Jesse Eisenberg, 28, who received an Academy Award nomination for playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network (2010).
It’s an impromptu line that he says in his flick, 30 Minutes or Less, which hits Indian theatres today. “I don’t check that sh*t. I’m off the grid,” he says.
“I thought that was something my character would say. I mean, it was not supposed to be a joke because I was in a movie about it. The idea is like this character I play ... he lives a very isolated life. He’s a pizza guy. He spends most of the time alone in his car, and he is the kind of guy who considers himself like a rogue ascetic, instead of just a guy with no friends. And so he dismisses anything that would make him feel like part of — you know, integrated into society with something like Facebook,” says the actor.
Life after a Golden Globe for playing Zuckerberg has only been “as usual” for Eisenberg. “It’s not any different. I mean, it’s nice to be in something that’s received so well, but I mean I have the same kind of life and it was a strange time of putting on a lot of suits, but that’s over,” he says.
Ask him why he chose to do a comedy just after a heavy drama like The Social Network, and he says, “I don’t choose what to do based on the genre because my job doesn’t really change based on the genre ... my job is always to just kind of play the scene realistically within the parameters of the character, so that doesn’t change whether the movie is a comedy or a drama or, in this case, an action-comedy.” He also tells us that 30 Minutes or Less was filmed before The Social Network, so that dialogue couldn’t possibly be a dig at his previous role.
