The series began in 2001, with the relatively modest The Fast and the Furious, a film about illegal street racing in Los Angeles. And now, 16 years later, the eighth installment, The Fate of the Furious involved The Rock pushing torpedoes with his bare hands and Vin Diesel racing nuclear submarines - a huge jump from the Mazdas and Toyotas from the first film.
