The first trailer for the animated film Rise of the Guardians was released March 28, featuring the voices of Hugh Jackman as the Easter Bunny and Alec Baldwin as Santa.
Expected to be one of the big Christmas holiday movies this year, it depicts the figures of childhood myths and legends as superheroes but replacing the comic book look with lush imagery.
Santa leads kids' "guardians," rallying the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, the Sandman and Jack Frost, collecting all their powers in an epic battle against the evil spirit Pitch, who threatens to take over the world and instill fear in children.
Not to be confused with The Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, based on Kathryn Lasky's novels, this story is adapted from another beloved children's book series, William Joyce's The Guardians of Childhood.
The voice cast also features Chris Pine (Star Trek), Isla Fisher (Rango), Alec Baldwin (It's Complicated) and Jude Law (Hugo) as Pitch.
Executive produced by Guillermo Del Toro, the adventure takes a twist on the traditional tales, showing Santa, aka Nicholas St. North, with a sarcastic sense of humor, tattoos, abominable snowmen instead of elves and a decked-out sleigh.
Rise of the Guardians arrives in theaters on November 21-22 in North America, Argentina and Singapore, follows November 28-30 in France, the UK and Brazil, and rolls out in Australia, European markets and other territories throughout December 2012.
