Gerard Butler has an affinity for all things Indian. After being in the news for his friendship with Priyanka Chopra, the Hollywood hunk now wants to star in an Indian film. In fact, The Bounty Hunter star has asked filmmaker Shekhar Kapur to pen a script for him. Kapur met Butler during the recently concluded Berlin Film Festival.

“Gerry (Gerard) is an old friend. I met him on a flight in Berlin. He is very enthusiastic about doing a film in India. In fact, Gerry asked me to write an Indian script for him, which can be shot in the country,” says Kapur.

The Elizabeth director, however, is tied up with his other projects. “I told Gerry it’s difficult for me to write a story for him as I take ages to write and make new films,” he says, with a laugh. “So, I don’t know if I can fulfill his demand, but let’s see how things go.”

Kapur adds that several other Hollywood stars too are keen to do films in India. “But Gerry is very clued in to Indian films. I think he has watched a few Hindi films too,” says Kapur. Recently, Gerard watched Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey and was quite impressed. “I think Priyanka (Chopra), a friend of Gerry, made him watch it,” he adds.

Gerard, during his trip to India in 2009, revealed that he had auditioned for a role in Aamir Khan’s 2001 film, Lagaan but didn’t get the part.

Kapur says that Gerard connects with India on a spiritual level. “Gerry definitely has some special connect with the country,” he says. During his India trip, the Hollywood star had also stated that he “loves this country. India attracts you towards itself and you can never say no.” Gerard had visited several places like Udaipur and Jaipur where he had especially met good friend Chopra. He had also met the Slumdog Millionaire kids and had attended a party thrown by Chopra at her residence in Mumbai.

Reportedly, Gerard was completely besotted by the 7 Khoon Maaf actor and kept proposing to her jokingly. He had said, “I’d love to date an Indian girl.” When he was asked about his friendship with Chopra, he had said, “I would’ve dated her, but she has a boyfriend.”
