Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi film Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock has got off to a fantastic start at the Indian box office. The film, which released nationwide last Friday, has raked in Rs 8 crores (gross) including paid previews and weekend collections.

Gravity released in 195 screens in all – 3 IMAX screens, 192 3D screens. Defying the usual BO trend, the film has beaten Bollywood biggies like Besharam and comedy War Chhod Na Yaar.

Interestingly, the Hollywood blockbuster also holds the record for the highest ever October opening weekend for a film. It raked in $ 55.9 mn in its opening weekend and has already crossed $ 100 mn at the US box office alone.

Critics love it too. As Simon Thompson of Huffington Post writes, "Gravity is a classic in every sense of the word and is destined to rightfully earn the label of being one of the greatest films of a generation and will rightly be on Best Film Of All Time lists for years to come."
