She fell in love with it the moment she saw it, but Academy award winning actor Halle Berry soon realised wearing the traditional Indian sari is no child’s play. She is seen sporting one in a sequence in her upcoming flick, Cloud Atlas.
"It is a scene where I have to attend a high-end party. So, I decide to wear a sari. That’s how it happened," says the 46-year-old, adding, "I loved the bright, beautiful red sari at first sight.
Initially, I found it a little difficult to walk. I was scared that I would trip. But luckily, that didn’t happen." Berry, however, stays mum on whether she plays an Indian in of her six characters in the film or if it’s just an Indian-theme sequence. "You should watch it and find out," says the actor.
Her connect with India doesn’t end with the sci-fi-fantasy drama that hits the screens here on October 26, as her fiance, actor Oliver Martinez comes here regularly.
What about her? "I haven’t been to India till now. I know it sounds funny since Olivier has visited the country so many times. But I want to come to India soon," says Berry, adding, "He shows me pictures every time he comes back from India. He also talks about India’s culture.
One thing he keeps repeating after his visit is about the people of the country. He really loves people in India. He has also watched couple of Indian films." Ask her about one place Martinez’s told her about India and she says, "Rajasthan. Olivier’s been there. The palaces are very beautiful he said. I would definitely love to visit them."
And, the actor would "like to do a cameo" in a Bollywood film if given a chance rather than "a complete dedicated role".
