She plays a pivotal part in Martin Campbell's Green Lantern, but Blake Lively is better known as Serena, her character from the popular TV series Gossip Girl. "People didn't know my name real name on the sets. They addressed me as Serena, and that's when I knew Gossip Girl was watched," says Lively. "I was pleasantly surprised."
Juggling her television and film career is taxing for the actor, but she accepts it. "It is part and parcel of the game and a lot of actors go through this," says Lively, who is looking forward to the release of the superhero film based on the DC Comic. Green Lantern will hit screens this Friday.
Unlike most superhero plots, Lively's character of Carol Ferris plays Ryan Reynolds's onscreen love interest, but is never a woman in need. "It's rare because you never see a female also get to be the hero. She's not a damsel in distress," says Lively, who trained for some of the stunts with rigs used for action sequences in the cult movie, The Matrix (1999).
But what's really caught her breath is part two of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which will release in July. "I'm not a superhero fan. My superhero is Harry Potter. It's not normal. I actually refused to see part one because I'm in denial mode that it's over," says the fanatic, adding that her connection with the studio, Warner Bros for Green Lantern has worked out well for her. "I get to watch both the parts together.
Warner is organising a special screening for me. It's going to be like a six-hour film. I'm going to dress up as Hermione and bake special Harry Potter treats."Having watched a few Hindi films, Lively is well aware of the industry and it's style. She too, like other actors, would like to work in Bollywood, but for different reasons altogether. "I would work in a Bollywood film to wear a sari and beautiful jewellry from India!" she jokes.
