She made her debut with Denzel Washington and will next be seen alongside Matrix actor Keanu Reeves. But India is where actor Sarita Choudhury’s heart really belongs. The actor, best known for her role in the film Kamasutra, is finally coming back to Mumbai, after two decades of globetrotting.
Says the New York-based actor, “I was planning to move to Los Angeles earlier. But now, I want to move to India. I want to be a part of the fantastic work happening here. I went to Mumbai and it is so lively there; independent cinema is thriving, and I want to be there and be a part of it.” She adds that India is also the perfect place for her seven-year-old daughter Maria to grow up.
Choudhury is keeping mum about her yet-untitled project with Reeves. “It is an interesting project, and I had a rehearsal with Keanu. I cannot reveal much else,” she says, adding that Indian actors in Hollywood have never had it better.
“When Archie (Panjabi) won the Emmy, I was so happy. Indian actors are now doing all kinds of roles, which are not race specific. It’s a great time to be an Indian actor because not only is really good cinema coming out of India, Western films also have Indian characters now.”
