Highlight Story

Getting the biggest ever opening for a Hollywood film in India along with special screenings for Indians in US, Iron Man's bond with the country seems to be getting rather strong. The superhero franchise, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead, is one of the best faring Hollywood series in India.

The Avengers' success last year has whetted the Indian viewers' appetite and left them wanting for more.

Iron Man 3, which hits Indian theatres before its US release, will open in over 1,000 screens across the country. This will be the largest release for any Hollywood film in India till date. The movie being distributed by UTV Motion Pictures, will be released in about 450 digital screens and almost 350-400 single screens. The normal range for any big budget Hollywood movie is 200-250 screens.

Iron Man"Iron Man is a much-loved franchise and actor Robert Downey Jr is very popular among the superhero film lovers in India. Also, the film’s visibility and promotions are so strong that every multiplex has given it a major place," Girish Wankhede, general manager, marketing and communication, Cinemax told HT Cafe.

In fact, the film will be running in 100 screens only for Tamil audiences! "The Tamil dubbed version, also titled Iron Man 3, in 2D, is releasing in about 100 screens, while the English version is releasing in 3D in nearly 30 screens," said a statement. And if that wasn't enough, Iron Man 3 seems to be making a marked distinction and even a reservation for Indians settled in USA.

Iron ManThe third instalment of Iron Man, set to release April 26, will have two premieres in the US, and one especially for the Indian community. Confirming the news, a source said: "Both the premieres will be on the same day, but at two different locations".

So far collectively, the three films have made about $2.7 billion at the global box office in the past five years.

Iron Man 3, which continues Stark's storyline from both sets of Marvel franchises, centers around the evil extremist known as The Mandarin (played by Indian-origin actor Ben Kingsley) who is hell-bent on destroying the United States.

When The Mandarin destroys Stark's personal world as well as his superhero suit, Stark must begin from scratch, rebuilding his suit, freeing the woman he loves and saving the country from destruction. Bombs go off in crowds of people and buildings are destroyed in the film that the cast says reflects real-life threats. Like most such superhero film, Iron Man 3 too, explores a terrorism angle.
