Irrfan Khan leaves for Los Angeles today to join Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield for the premiere of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Irrfan plays the pivotal role of Dr Ratha in the film. However, he has decided not to talk about it until the last week of the film’s release in India.
“I did not get roles in The Amazing Spider-Man or Life of Pi by bragging about my Hollywood connections,” says the actor sternly. “I will not do it now to gain publicity. If my work is good, people will like it. I am open to doing films in any language and country.”
Though excited about attending his film’s international premiere, the actor rues, “People today are more interested in knowing what I will wear on the red carpet but my high was more about working in an interesting film, with an amazing star cast and director.”
The actor, who made the critics and audience sit up and take notice when he played Paan Singh Tomar earlier t his year, refuses to confirm if he will be part of Spiderman’s next installment. He says, “Until I sign the papers, all reports are speculations. After the premiere, I will be joining Ang Lee to complete the shoot of Life of Pi.”
Back home, audiences are excited to see Irrfan in the popular superhero franchise that will release three days before its international premiere in 1,000 screens across the country. The actor says, “I won’t be in India to see the response. My role is small but I hope the audience will like that it takes the story forward.”
Marc Webb, who directed Irrfan in this film, says he is “interesting.” He adds, “His acting ability was there for all to see in the television show In Treatment. A lot of very strong directors like Danny Boyle and Ang Lee among others are noticing him and looking to cast him. He has a wonderful reputation here.”
