Actor Johnny Depp will star in a biopic of classic children’s author and illustrator Dr Seuss. Depp is also producing the film, which is being developed by Illumination Entertainment and Infinitum Nihil while the Universal Pictures will distribute.
In Treatment writer Keith Bunin will write the screenplay, the Hollywood Reporter said. The actor is known for his unusual movie outings like W the Mad Hatter, Peter Pan author J M Barrie and Willy Wonka. One of the most popular works of all time, Suess’ books have sold more than 200 million copies worldwide.
Suess, real name Theodor Geisel, was born in 1904 and spent much of his childhood in Springfield, Massachusettes before going to college at Dartmouth. Throughout his early years, he drew advertising and comic strips, then political cartoons during World War II.
