After his acclaimed performance as the cop who becomes Batman's ally in, The Dark Knight Rises, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is rumored to be in Marvel's sights for the role of Doctor Strange, a superhero invented by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko back in 1963. But between tentative prospecting and a firm offer lies a gap that the studio is still far from crossing, adds Latino-review.com, in regard to the project's currently unconfirmed casting.
Doctor Strange, a gifted but cynical surgeon who became a sorcerer after losing the use of his hands, should be hitting the big screen between 2016 and 2018. During this three-year period, Marvel plans to launch its, Phase 3, series of superhero blockbusters.
Before Gordon-Levitt, a number of other actors were considered for the titular lead. George Clooney, Adrien Brody and Justin Theroux went all the way to preliminary talks. Patrick Dempsey and Benedict Cumberbatch were also among the names bandied about in recent years.
