One of the most special things about Harry Potter - or at least the Harry Potter movies - is the classic theme by John Williams. Over the years, it has become just as iconic as Williams’ other themes, including but not limited to Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurassic Park and most famously, Star Wars. And with Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them right around the corner, fans were treated to a new theme, released on Friday.

John Williams, 84, stopped composing for the Potter movies after Prisoner of Azkaban. But his themes were expanded by new composers like Alexandre Desplat, Nicholas Hooper and Patrick Doyle. For Fantastic Beasts, director David Yates brought James Newton Howard on board to compose the score. Here is the first track from the album, the one that will probably run over the opening titles of the film.

It kicks off with Hedwig’s Theme, a gentle reminder and a heavy kick of nostalgia for fans. Even though its only 2-and-a-half minutes long, the song covers so much ground, seemlessly moving from action cues to dramatic territory to more playful tunes, culminating with an epic goosebump-inducing climax.

James Newton Howard is an eight-time Oscar nominee who has composed scores for films like The Village, Blood Diamond, The Dark Knight and the Hunger Games series.
