On Tuesday night, Hollywood’s grandest love story came to an end, after actor Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from her husband of two years, actor Brad Pitt, citing “health of the family” as the reason, according to a statement given to celeb news website, TMZ.
The couple were together for 10 years before they got married in August 2014, and raise six kids together. This is so far 2016’s biggest celeb divorce, with the world giving their two bits about why celeb marriages don’t last long.
Psychologist Pulkit Sharma says, “The admiration celebs get from people makes them feel special about themselves and they find the adjustments and challenges of any normal relationship too daunting to handle. They feel pressurised to keep an ideal image of their relationship in front of the world and therefore, for a long time deny the issues and problems until they grow beyond repair.”
Adds relationship expert Jaspreet Kaur, “Celebs’ work demands travel and extended working hours which leaves them with little time to connect with each other. Unless they consciously bond emotionally, it’s unlikely their marriage will survive for long.”
This year, in May, actor Amber Heard filed for divorce from Hollywood star Johnny Depp after 15 months of marriage, saying Depp’s family “hated her” and that there were “irreconcilable differences” between them.
Things are no different in Bollywood. Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and wife, hairstylist Adhuna Akhtar, announced their separation in January, this year, after 16 years of marriage. The couple has maintained that this split is a result of “growing apart over the years”.
As for Brangelina, although Jolie has said “there was no alleged third person” responsible for her decision, there has been buzz that they were heading for splitsville, after Jolie discovered that Pitt was cheating on her with actor Marion Cotillard, while the two were shooting for a film in England.
