Michael Keaton will portray the CEO of private security firm Omni Corp, the company that creates RoboCop, in the upcoming remake of the 1980s classic, according to Deadline.com.
Michael Keaton is filling the void left by Hugh Laurie by taking on the role Raymond Sellars. In the movie's dystopian future, Omni Corp is the firm that builds the crime-fighting and mayhem-causing cyborg, using what's left of a police officer on the verge of death.
Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha (Elite Squad) will direct the remake, and the plot will revolve around the human conscience and memories that awaken in the robot officer.
Joel Kinnaman will be wearing the RoboCop suit, taking over from Peter Weller in the original Paul Verhoeven film. Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson are also part of the cast for the feature, which is expected to hit theaters worldwide in 2013.
